Empower and Protect

BrainTrust Canada has partnered with the RCMP to create the Empower and Protect program.

What is the Empower and Protect program?

The Empower and Protect program is an innovative initiative aimed to address the alarming intersection of family violence and brain injury, focusing particularly on Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). This initiative will assist the targeted groups – youth, at-risk youth, community members, and families – by enhancing awareness, providing educational and supportive recourses, and promoting preventative strategies to reduce IPV and its devastating impacts.

Prevention and Support

  • Implement prevention strategies focusing on early intervention, teaching conflict resolution skills, and promoting healthy relationship dynamics
  • Establish support networks and resources for victims of IPV, including access to medical and psychological services specialized in diagnosing and treating brain injuries

Expected Outcomes

  • Increased public awareness of the link between IPV and brain injury
  • Enhanced capacity among healthcare providers to diagnoses and treat IPV-related brain injuries
  • Strengthened support networks for IPV victims, reducing the incidence of unreported and untreated cases
  • Influential advocacy leading to policy reforms that better address the needs of IPV victims with brain injuries
