Helmet Safety Program

Helmet Safety

Wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle can reduce the risk of brain injury by 88%.

We partner with the Cities of Kelowna and Vernon, and RCMP Community Policing for our helmet safety program. Together we promote the use of helmets. We also teach youth how to wear a helmet properly and how to cycle safely (e.g. Walk your bike across the street in the crosswalk).

We then reward youth 'caught' showing safe cycling behaviours. These youth receive coupons from local businesses such as McDonald's, Dominos, and A&W.
We also give bicycle helmets to youth 19 and under who don't have a helmet. We distribute some free helmets in the community. Parents can also contact us about getting free bicycle helmets for their children.
Note: Free helmets are for families who cannot afford one. We have limited funds, and can only give helmets to those in need.
Thanks to the Associated Canadian Travelers/United Commercial Travelers for funding this program.
