The countdown is on!
Meet Our Band, Europa
I'm Carolyn Theiss on vocals. I began singing when I was 5 years old. As a youth I competed yearly in the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, and was involved with musical theatre throughout high school. I have continued singing throughout my adult life, and since 2005 have been back on stage with Kelowna Black Box Theatre productions.
I'm Martin Theiss on rhythm guitar and lead vocals. Born and raised in Canada, my first language was German. I was introduced to German music at a young age and performed for many years as a German Schuhplattler dancer. I started my own band at age 13, performing throughout British Columbia for over 25 years. I am currently President of the Centre for Arts and Technology in Kelowna.
I'm Ray Volk, on saxophone, and have been playing saxophone and other instruments with many different artists and bands for over 60 years. A carpenter by trade, my passion for music has never waned!
I'm Art Boehm on bass guitar and vocals. I have a diverse background, having grown up in the choir loft, and played with various bands on the east and west coasts. I've played for over 25 years in the Okanagan as a member of the Vic Ukrainitz Band as well as many other groups.
I'm Lonnie Burma, on drums. I got my start in country/gospel with the Burma Family Band and later played in various country, jazz, rock, and blues ensembles. I now teach students at my private drum studio in Kelowna, and perform with many local artists and productions including the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble.
I'm Rod Miller on accordion, keyboards and vocals. I began playing accordion at age 5 and playing dance music at age 15. I've won many awards for my accordion playing, have done several recording projects, and played with well-known Kelowna-based bands, Cruzeros and Cowboy Bob.
Put on your best Bavarian outfit and head to The Laurel Packinghouse for Oktoberfest in Kelowna. There will be German eats and drinks with plenty of bratwurst and pretzels, beer and shot skis.
Kelowna-based band Europa will be providing the "Oom-pah-pah". Formed in 2011 by Rod Miller and Martin Theiss, Europa plays a diverse repertoire of 'continental' style music specializing in German Oktoberfest and other European and North American old-time music and rock and roll. With over 200 years of combined musical experience, Europa's members will be sure to have you singing and dancing the night away.
Come and have fun while helping out a great cause! All proceeds go toward brain injury prevention, education, and support services in the Okanagan.
Ein prosit! (In German, this means "a toast".)
